2009 Smiling For Smiddy Challenge

Smiling For Smiddy

The Bottlemart Smiling for Smiddy Challenge enters its fourth year in 2009, once again challenging 50 cyclists and support crew to a gruelling 1600 kilometre cycle from Brisbane to Home Hill (near Townsville) from 5-12 September.

The annual Challenge is held in memory of 26 year old Brisbane physiotherapist and triathlete Adam Smiddy who passed away after a short battle against an aggressive cancer.

In three years the Smiddy Challenge has established itself as one of Australia’s most demanding charity events, raising significant funds for world-class cancer research. The Challenge has grown from three cyclists raising $24,000 in 2006, to 50 cyclists raising more than $419,000 in 2008.

The target for 2009 is $500,000. The Mater Foundation is again the major beneficiary in 2009 where funds will support prostate cancer research, melanoma drug trials and complementary therapies for cancer patients.

99 Bikes is proud to once again support, and has supplied helmets and bottles to each of the 50 riders to the value of $7000.

 2008 Everest Challenge

Everest Challenge Riders

The Everest Virtual Challenge, presented by Heritage Building Society, is an exciting walking program and unique fundraising event, where you and your team mates race to the ‘virtual' top of the world.

Just 10,000 steps per person per day for a team of 15 will add up to 2.1 million steps - the number required to reach the summit of Mount Everest!

99 Bikes sponsored the event launch by simulating a ride to the top of the world in one day - 15 riders completing 5000km in one day! The event was held at the entrance to QUT Gardens Point at the end of the Goodwill Bridge.

As well as collecting donations, two bikes were raffled off and all funds raised went towards funding children's medical research here in Brisbane.

The Everest Virtual Challenge will be happening again in early 2009, and more information can be seen at www.workingwonders.com.au
