Winner of 'Bike of the Year 2017' in the Race Bike category by Agoria and VAB in Belgium
Professionals from the cycling industry, together with consumers tested a vast amount of bikes to determine which are the best. In the race bike category, SCULTURA DISC 5000 had to fight off some impressive opposition, but in the end came out on top.
Verdict: 'The SCULTURA DISC 5000 offers a complete package for its price. The carbon frame is very stable and offers a comfortable ride without making the bike feel slow. The disc brakes will let you brake fast and controlled.' On its way to the top, the SCULTURA DISC 5000 left highly respected contenders behind.
The top-3 of the test:
1. Merida Scultura Disc 5000 (RRP $2799 Club Price $2561)
2. Cannondale Super Six EVO Hi-Mod Disc Ultegra Dl2 (RRP $5699)
3. Giant TCR Advanced Pro Disc (RRP $5299)
Merida Scultura 5000-D (Disc Brake) is a carbon fibre road bike designed for mid level road cycling. The Scultura is a great all-round road option, that balances speed with long ride comfort. This makes it suitable for longer or shorter rides, training and racing. Merida Scultura 5000 features a lightweight carbon frame, which offers speed and efficiency, as well as comfort over long rides. The Scultura frame platform is a multiple winner when tested against the best road bikes in the market, recording highest measurements for both bottom brack and headtube stiffness. This front end stiffness provides stabilty through corners and confident handling, while lateral stiffness through the bottom bracket provides sharp acceleration out of the saddle, and more efficient pedalling, turning more of your pedal stroke into speed over the road. The Scultura 5000-D has greater stopping power in all weather conditions with the additon of a disc brake.
The Scultura frame platform is favoured by Team Lampre Merida in the UCI Pro Tour, meaning models throughout the series benefit from the research and technological innovation that goes into building a bike to perform at the highest level. A tapered head tube provides more strength and stiffness through the front end of the bike, which means improved overall handling. Flex Stay technology in the rear allows the carbon to offer some vertical movement, which is designed to absorb bumps and vibrations to create a more comfortable ride.
