About Me

Hi, my name is Peta. I’m a mum of two young boys, and work at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital campus. I have been cycle commuting around 26km return to work for the last few years, however its become more difficult to do this on a regular basis with kindy/school drop off and pickup and a hilly cycle route to navigate.

I am very excited to join the 2021 99 Bikes Green Team as an electric bike will allow me to commute more frequently and make it easier on the hills and with the kids in the trailer.

“This week I’d like to share some of my commute along some great Brisbane bikeways: Centenary Motorway Bikeway, the Bicentennial Bikeway along the Brisbane River, and the Grammar Bikeway along the Inner City Bypass that connects to the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital campus where I work. I feel very safe commuting along the bikeways, end I enjoy seeing all the other people cycling, scootering, running and walking to work - and it’s such a great way to start your day! In Qld it is also legal for all cyclists to ride on the footpath which is another great safe option if you need to travel to a bikeway or there is no bikeway where you are going and you don’t feel comfortable on the road. I hope this might encourage you and your family to look into active commuting to work, uni and school sometime.”

I love riding my bike and sharing the joy of riding with my friends and family! This week my parents have been staying with us in Brisbane. After seeing how much I enjoy riding my e-bike and how convenient it is to avoid traffic and commute to work via the bikeway, they took my bike for a test ride and they both decided they loved it so much they each bought themselves a cube e-bike from 99bikes! They’re already planning their next adventure on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. We’ve had great fun riding together this week, and now my five year old says “Why am I the only one without an e-bike?!”

While Covid lockdown and rainy days didn’t stop us riding this week, we were very glad for some sunshine on our ride today.

We’re on school holidays now which means no commuting to work, but I’m looking forward to swapping as many car trips for the e-bike as possible, and of course plenty of rides to the parks and exploring Brisbane
