Meet The Team
Name: Ethan O'Dell
Role: Team Leader
Customer Service Experience: Over 12 years in the bicycle retail industry.
Riding Experience: I competed in road and track cycling from when I was 12 until about 21. I was lucky enough to be able to represent QLD at many national titles in this time and ride along side some of the best in Australia. Although I don’t race any more I still love everything bikes from the off road trails to the cruise beach days.
Expertise: Road and track cycling but bit of a bike nerd.
What do you love about bikes?: I love that bikes can be a great solution to anything from someones health to the congestion on the roads to the state of the environment. Everyone can enjoy riding no matter your age or fitness level these days. I love the development we are seeing in E-Bikes at the moment and think that this is a huge step forward in bikes of the future.
Current Bikes: Merida Scultura.
Favourite Ride: Back home in Brisbane QLD there is a road loop well known as the River Loop, awesome scenery, plenty of brew stops, this would be my favourite ride.
Name: Michael Redmond
Role: Future Team Leader
Experience: My background is definitely in Mountain biking, starting with one as most kids do but then following my uncle out onto the trails. More recently I've got into my road biking as well, so now I rock both sides of the coin.
Expertise: Hardtail and Dual suspension Mountain and Drop Bar Road.
What do you love about bikes?: The freedom, without a doubt the feeling of pumping along by your own power going where ever you want be it bush/trail or take a longer cruise down the beach. Fitness and sweet savings on the dollars and cents also work too!
Current Bikes: Merida One Forty 700, Merida Scultura 5000.
Favourite Ride: Beach, Bush anywhere with a trail or a lane I can ride on.
Name: Tom Kaczor
Role: Sales Consultant
Experience: 8 Years in retail sales, with a background in the health, nutrition and fitness industry.
Expertise: Have been riding mainly Road Bikes for about 10 years now and have done a little riding on electric bikes.
What do you love about bikes?: Initially I got into bike riding through extensive knee rehab I had to go through. It kept me focused on my goals and I progressed through to road bikes. Now I absolutely love the feel of freedom and the awe inspiring views that you get from cycling along the coast, plus the added health aspect it provides, both physically and mentally. If I don't go ridding for a few days I get this strange, uncomfortable, restless feeling. So I've done a some crazy things in the past, like going for a ride in some wild weather, or even jumping on my bike right in the middle of the night.
Current Bikes: Jamis Xenith.
Favourite Ride: Coastal stretch anywhere from City Beach to Burns Beach, here in Perth.
Name: Dave Mullins
Role: Mechanic and Sales Consultant
Customer Service Experience: I've been in the industry for about 18 years. I started working in bike stores as a teenager in 1999. Throughout that time I have worked in stores all over the country and gained experience as both a mechanic and a consultant.
Riding Experience: I began racing mountain bikes in the '90s. Starting out in XC racing I quickly found myself drawn to downhill racing and began competing in both the NSW states series and the Australian National Series. In the mid-2000s I started competing in mountain cross events and eventually found myself competing in road racing, including the Tour of Canberra. I've often crossed trained on BMX tracks and in the velodrome - I pretty much love any kind of cycling I can find. I also have experience as a mountain bike coach, coaching the Knox Grammar Mountain Bike Team and as a ride leader for training rides on Sydney's North Shore.
Expertise: Gravity mountain bikes, road racing and entry-level mountain biking.
What do you love about bikes?: The freedom, the thrill. I feel more comfortable on two wheels than I do on my own two feet. There's nothing better than finding a faster line through a rock garden or finally pinning a corner that's been giving you grief.
Current Bikes: Haro fixie.
Favourite Ride: Cascades on the mountain bike and the 5 Gorges on the road. Both are rides I grew up on, and no matter how far I travel from them, they'll always be special to me.
Races: Too many to list, but the 1999 Interschool Championships at Mt Buller was probably my favourite race of all time. Special mention for the Mount Coramba downhill track they ran during the '06 state series and the Tour of Canberra.
Name: Vincent Barre
Role: Mechanic and Sales Consultant
Experience: I started getting into road bikes 10 years ago commuting to work in the busy streets of central London. After working in London for 4 years I started travelling the world for 7 years mostly doing ski seasons in France, Switzerland, New Zealand and Japan. Although I was in colder climates it didn't stop me getting my bike fix, shredding downhill trails in Queenstown - NZ to fat biking on the famous powder snow of Hokkaido - Japan. At the time of writing this I've been in Perth for 4 months commuting to work on my roadie and very excited to get stuck into the Kalamunda trails as well as anything else WA has to offer!
Expertise: Road bikes, Hybrid/Commuter bikes and have my sights set on becoming a mountain bike expert very soon!
What do you love about bikes?: Aside from obvious reasons such as reducing my carbon footprint, keeping healthy, saving some dollars and in some cases saving time, I love the sense of freedom you get being out in the elements and the satisfaction of getting my hands dirty and fixing bikes.
Current Bikes: Pinnacle Sentinal 2.0.
Favourite Ride: 7 day touring/camping of Okinawa Island - Japan, Queenstown Skyline - NZ and West Coast Drive - Perth on a windy day ;)
Name: Ash Maher
Experience: For the last 13 years I have been Head Mechanic/Workshop Manager in a couple of shops in Perth. I have most recently been running my own mobile servicing business, but wanted to get back to working in a retail bike store. My background as a mechanic is very much Mountain bike and Road Racing, but if it has 2 wheels and pedals then i can probably fix it.
Expertise: Background in Free Riding and now in Trail Riding, with a little bit of road riding so I am fit enough for the mountain biking.
What do you love about bikes?: Great tool for a good life. Whether it's commuting to and from work, general fitness, weekend ride with the kids, or if you want to race either on the road, or tearing up the trails. Bikes can take you to some amazing places in life.
Current Bikes: Trek Fuel Ex 9.
Favourite Ride: Wherever I am riding now.
