Meet The Team
Name: Mitchell Vervaart
Role: Team Leader
Experience: A life long member of the cycling industry, I have worked across a number of stores both in Melbourne and more recently in Adelaide. Additionally, I have spent a number of years running my own wholesale cycling company. I have also been competing as a road cyclist for 20 years and over the last few years have been chasing my partner around on the cyclocross bike as she travels the globe to race.
Expertise: Road Cycling and Cyclocross are my passion.
What do you love about bikes?: Bikes have so many functions and purposes. Nothing beats the bike to commute or for an early morning training session. Cycling is such a social event leading to life long friends.
Current Bikes: Cannondale Supersix. Merida Cross 5000.
Favourite Ride: Any 3 hour loop in the Adelaide Hills. I have a soft spot for an effort up Greenhill Rd. I have ridden some quite breathtaking climbs in Spain, France and Switzerland but find Mount Buffalo in Victoria a great climb and descent.
Name: Josiah Whittaker
Role: Sales Consultant
Experience: After cycling took over my life 2 years ago, I've gone from a complete novice who was unable to change a tube to now racing in A-Grade here in Rads.
Expertise: Road/Road Race, Kids Bikes.
What do you love about bikes?: I love being able to pull off a big bunch sprint win and standing on the top step of a podium after a race. Also the freedom that riding a bike enables you have - ask any cyclist - there's a high chance that they can take you exploring all around the beautiful Adelaide Hills like it's their own backyard. I am also partial to a lovely coffee stop on a bunch ride, or maybe 5?
Current Bikes: Argon 18 Krypton (w/ lots of upgrades).
Favourite Ride: Norton Summit/Ashton loop is definitely a favourite of mine, or any ride that stops at the Organic Market and Cafe @ Stirling. Plus every 99 Bikes group ride is usually a whole heap of fun... can I just say every ride is my favourite?
Name: Michael Craig
Role: Sales Consultant
Experience: I started working at 99 Bikes Modbury after completing a year abroad, working in summer camps and ski fields in the US and Canada. 99 Bikes has helped me grow my passion for bikes even further, and I am able to use my product knowledge to help our customers find what they're looking for.
Expertise: Mountain and road bikes.
What do you love about bikes?: Bikes are an incredible way to get to work during the week, but then on the weekend they provide an unrivalled form of leisure that gets you out exploring nature, and making sure you stay fit at the same time.
Current Bikes: 2020 Merida Scultura 6000, 2017 Vitus Sentier VRS.
Favourite Ride: Wherever it's warm and sunny, and can provide a challenge to make my legs burn afterwards!
Name: Russel Christie-Taylor
Role: Sales Consultant
Experience: Finished my Industrial Design Bachelor's with an exchange to the Netherlands, were I was able to study and ride my bike, exploring Europe and meeting a huge range of new people. Came back to Adelaide and joined the Modbury team at 99 Bikes were I can share my love of bikes, design and problem solving on a daily basis.
Expertise: Road bikes, cyclocross, commuting.
What do you love about bikes?: Bikes have given me a way to explore new parts of the world and meet a whole new group of people I would never have been able to without riding.
Current Bikes: Canyon Ultimate CF SLX Disc and a Canyon Inflite CF SL.
Favourite Ride: Any loop in the Adelaide Hills, so many amazing roads, especially if you enjoy a bit of gravel bashing. Mawson Road is worth checking out!
Name: Brayden Funk
Experience: Worked in fast food for 4 years, joined 99bikes as a bike builder in march 2018. Now bike mechanic. Road rider always in the hills climbing.
Expertise: Climbing and Endurance.
What do you love about bikes?: The freedom you get with riding bikes where you can choose your own adventure any day of the week.
Current Bikes: Merida Scultura Comp 905, Polygon Siskiu D6.0.
Favourite Ride: Riding through the high country in Victoria up Mt Buffalo and Falls Creek.
Name: Simon Ciracovitch
Experience: Worked in the bicycle industry for 16 years. Extensive experience with high-end road and CX bikes as well as E-bikes, MTB and fixies. Mostly road riding but enjoys getting down and dirty too.
Expertise: Custom bike building. Well versed in Shimano, Sram, Campagnolo. Di2, Etap. Etc. Problem solving.
What do you love about bikes?: Seeing the life changes cycling can bring about, be that from commuting, road, tri, MTB or casual fitness.
Favourite Ride: Montacute decent would be right up there. With a lot of silly motorcycling experience, descending comes fairly natural.
Name: David Mclean
Role: Sales Consultant
Experience: After 30 plus years in the motorcycle industry, I decided to take up cycling as a recovery after a motocross accident. I very quickly became addicted to it, commuting up to 300kms a week. I also found a love for cross country mountain bike racing, competing in the local club championships.
Expertise: I love my fixie the most.
What do you love about bikes?: I love the concept of moving along under your own steam, it’s such a cheap and easy way to get around.
Current Bikes: My current bike is a single speed fixed wheel. My own build.
Favourite Ride: I am lucky enough to have the Norton Summit climb at my door step. I will often climb it 4 or 5 times early on a Sunday morning on my fixie
