About 99 Bikes
Our purpose is to enrich, mind, body, soul or earth with the freedom of riding. We’re looking for superstars with rookie smarts who are driven by results and love what they do. You don’t need to know anything about bikes to join the team.
STAY HUNGRY, STAY FOOLISH
The 99 Way
We have a strong culture of ownership, achievement and opportunity. We take our work seriously but not ourselves - we have fun! There are regular RIDE Events (reward and recognition, information, drinks and eats) to celebrate our achievements as a team, plus our annual GLOBAL event at an international destination celebrating the top achievers within the company. People is our number one philosophy and we reward and recognise our high achievers.
We thrive on having and giving ownership in our roles. We are empowered to be autonomous with the freedom to make decisions and to treat the business like our own. To support this mindset we offer our people financial ownership through Shares, Commission, Profit Share and Business Ownership Schemes for our Team Leaders. By 2027 our vision is to be 54% employee owned!
“First Who, Then What” Is a principle that guides us in how we think about opportunities. People is our number 1 philosophy and we have self motivated, smart, achievers in our teams who help decide the business direction. For example, one of our best performers in Melbourne wanted to move to Canberra so it helped make the decision to open our first store there. We now have 3 profitable stores in the ACT. We focus on promoting from within and have numerous training pathways to nurture development.
We have high expectations of achievement in performance, attitude and teamwork. This drives us to delight our customers towards our vision of being the World’s Most Approachable Bike Shops. We are passionate about meeting rhythms with transparent sharing of information and coaching of our people. Each person at 99 Bikes will have a 1 on 1 with their Leader every month to nurture their development.
Benefits & Perks
People is our number one philosophy - we care about their health and wellbeing, their family and their ‘Brightness of Future’. We offer a Parental Leave package, staff purchasing at cost price, travel discounts through Flight Centre, and we pay our people to ride to work!
We are a growth company and focus on promoting from within. Our team members have progressed to become Team Leaders, State Leaders, Department Leaders and General Managers.
Reward and Recognition
Our culture is built on celebrating high achievement through daily, monthly and yearly recognition and reward. Each year our top achievers are rewarded with a ticket to an amazing event in a different country. Recently we’ve been to Queenstown, Whistler and our next event will be in Hakuba, Japan!
With shops in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, an international transfer could be just a conversation away. We support short and long term relocation opportunities, and our Peak-to-Peak Program between AUS and the UK means experiencing an endless summer!
At all stages of your journey we nurture people who have aspirations to lead a team or run a business through our 7-program Leadership Academy. Our Team Leaders have ownership of decisions and lead teams of up to 8 people. No experience is required as we promote based on achievements and ability.
The 99 Bikes Business School offers a Certificate in Business and the internationally recognised Cytech Bicycle Mechanic Technical Accreditation, supporting further training and development of our people.
Our Employee Share Scheme offers all of our people the equal opportunity to buy shares each year. This ownership is important to our culture as we treat the business like our own.
Enrich mind, body, earth or soul with the freedom of riding - that’s our purpose and our success means nothing without achieving this. We’re on our way to becoming B-Corp certified, meeting global standards in areas like environmental impact, diversity and inclusiveness.
Each year our employees get $1000 towards a self development activity to enrich their mind or body. Our people have been to wellness retreats, taken a public speaking course or connected with a personal finance mentor.
Take It From A 99’er
Here’s why our people love being a part of the 99 Bikes team
“I joined the 99 team late 2019 in the Fast Track Team Leader Program. I was immediately impressed with the rewarding, inclusive culture and the opportunities for growth within the company. Within 6 months I was in a Team Leader position and tasked with opening the ACT’s newest and largest store. Fast forward a couple of years and I am now the State Leader For NSW & ACT. I am really excited to be working in such a supportive, progressive and fun environment and for the next leg of my journey with 99 Bikes”
Michelle - State Leader NSW/ACT
“I joined 99 Bikes in 2017 as a sales consultant which was, in fact, my first job! At my initial group assessment day, I was identified as having future leadership potential. It was so motivating to feel acknowledged, without having the experience, but rather being appreciated for my personality traits and potential. I became a Team Leader in 2019 and it has been wonderful to be a part of a company who creates a huge variety of pathways and opportunities, no matter your aspirations. 99 Bikes feels like a big family, promoting egalitarianism, ownership, environmental consciousness and leading a healthy lifestyle!”
Brit - Franchise Team Leader
“I joined 99 way back in 2014, and have never worked in a better company! There is so much support, training, opportunity and recognition! As I’m about to pack my bags for my 7th Global gathering, I never imagined being a bike mechanic could be so rewarding. I’m proud to work for a company that looks after its staff as much as their customers, helps people achieve their dreams of riding bikes or growing their careers in a fun and safe environment.”
David - Mechanic
“I've been a part of the bike industry since 2009, working for various companies over the years. However 99 Bikes really stands out for me and has provided amazing coaching and development opportunities. These opportunities have allowed me to progress from working as a mechanic in a store to into a support role in our Head Office where I manage warranties and aftersales for four of our major brands . I'm really happy with my career so far within 99 Bikes and love being part of the team”
Sam - Warranties & Aftersales Manager
