About Me

I live in Coorparoo, an inner Southern suburb of Brisbane and work for a small business which recently relocated out to Acacia Ridge.

As a strong advocate for reducing my carbon footprint, I have been commuter cycling for years. When we renovated our modest 1950's cavity brick home, the roof tiles were coated with heat reflective paint, we installed ceiling and wall insulation, and attached refurbished awnings to the windows and deck. A 6kW rooftop solar array powers our home, charges my e-bike and feeds energy into the grid.

My partner & I landscaped our 850m2 block to create a shady green sanctuary by capturing surface runoff and re-directing it into raised garden beds planted with indigenous trees and vines. Rainwater harvested from the roof is stored in 13kl tanks. We also compost our garden and food waste.

On most Sundays I will be with friends sea kayaking 20-30km somewhere on beautiful Moreton Bay. My holidays are usually multi-day kayak touring and camping on offshore islands in National Parks. Riding a 99 Bikes Green Team e-bike has made my 45min, 14km, hilly commute an absolute pleasure.

Update Six

Monday, 31 May 2021

Week 6 started with a foggy morning. By midweek an unseasonal storm had me riding home in the dark and the high beam on the Ravemen headlight was brilliant when riding through Toohey Forest. The daylight hours are getting shorter and my afternoon cycle commute will soon have me arriving home after sunset so I visited the Optometrist to discuss glasses for riding in the dark.

Brisbane at this time of year is perfect for commuter cycling with mild temperatures, beautiful clear blue skies and still daylight during my ride home.
