Experience: I started working in bike shops in a sales and mechanic role almost 20 years ago and a lot of bikes have come through my workshop since then. Making the transition from mechanic to the shop floor full time, I find my technical knowledge helps guide customers into choosing the right product for their specific needs. I grew up in the Scottish countryside and pretty early on began throwing myself down muddy hillsides and spending all my spare money on bikes. Working in a bike shop only fuelled my addiction as the new shiny bits that arrived would always look so good on my bike…all in the name of better product knowledge of course! Racing in the Scottish DH series was more of a social thing for me rather than getting podium spots every weekend but still counts for some of the best weekends away with mates I can remember. As well as riding bikes, through a research placement at university I shaped the provision of ‘extreme’ trails in Scotland and influenced the Forestry Commission GB into working with ‘illegal’ trail builders instead of bulldozing them. The search for the legendary dry trail eventually brought me to Adelaide in 2007, here I found out that mountain biking does not necessarily end with 30 minutes thawing out your feet in front of a heater! Since coming to Australia I’ve taken full advantage of the perfect riding climate and access to great trails within 20 mins of the city. I now enjoy challenging myself uphill as well as down for the complete experience.
Expertise: XC, Trail and All Mountain. Getting riders back on the trail/tarmac after a mechanical.
What do you love about bikes?: Getting out into the country with mates, challenging yourself on new trails and the banter that combines the two.
Current Bikes: Custom Rocky Mountain Element Team RSL, Custom BMC Superstroke 01, Felt F5, Colony Emerge, Pedal Tokyo, Unicycle (ridden badly).
Favourite Ride: Anything with good single track. Fox Creek is awesome but I also love the more natural rooty and rocky trails around Belair/Blackwood/Sturt Gorge.
Name: Aidan Lampe
Role: Mechanic and Sales Consultant
Experience: Fairly new to the retail industry I worked in a small bike shop in the Barossa valley for 4 months before starting with 99 Bikes in March 2017. I first got into riding bikes through doing Pedal Prix at school, beginning in year 8 I'm still racing 10 years later! I'm now in my 5th year of racing with the community team Unhinged and having a wicked fun time! I discovered mountain biking in my first year of uni and purchased my first "real" bike which was my Giant 29er and before I knew it I was entering my first cross country race. Between training for pedal prix and mountain biking I soon joined the road bike scene competing in some local crits and road races and expanded my life on the pedals.
Expertise: Cross Country Mountain Bikes, 3 wheeled contraptions.
What do you love about bikes?: I love almost everything about bikes, the freedom to go wherever you want and discover things you would normally miss/can't get to in a vehicle, the ability to push yourself to your limits, the healthy lifestyle that goes hand in hand with riding bikes (including of course post ride frothy beverages).
Current Bikes: 2019 Merida Ninety-Six Team, 2019 Merida Reacto Disc 8000E, 2019 Norco Search XR S Rival, Plus numerous other pub bikes and trainer bikes.
Favourite Ride: Slightly out of the ordinary my favourite ride is the 24hr pedal prix race held at Sturt Reserve in Murray Bridge every year, it's awesome to watch and even better to ride!
Name: Zane Scott
Role: Sales Consultant
Experience: I have held several positions in the cycling industry relating to sales and customer service. For me customer service is top priority! I want to learn about what kind of riding you are doing, what bike and equipment you need and how I may be able to assist you. I have several years customer service and sales experience in both bike shops and the cycling supply chain both in Australia and overseas. The technical side and mechanical side of cycling is also something which I have pursued during recent years, I am interested in all aspects of bicycle technology both current and former.
Expertise: Matching all cyclists with their perfect bike whether they are pros or have never been on a bike before, I want everyone to enjoy cycling like I do.
What do you love about bikes?: I love the simplicity of bicycles and the fact they can take you as far as you desire. Commuting on a bicycle calms me and is much better than being stuck in traffic. Riding a road bike at top speed is an experience which is almost unrivalled in my opinion. Cruising around the suburban streets on any kind of bike brings back memories of freedom and the simplicity of my childhood and is something which I still love doing these days.
Current Bikes: 1986 Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra with C-Record Gruppo (in bits), 1996 Mongoose Maneuver (my first MTB), 1998 Kona Explosif 26" steel rigid MTB, 2002 Look KG281 single speed conversion, 2014 AX-Lightness built SWIFT Sculp (custom carbon yet to be completed sub 4kg weight weenie build) 2018 Norco Torrent 2 plus hardtail.
Favourite Ride: Fox creek for the off road stuff or just riding around the suburban or city streets on a summers night, wherever ! Any of the Linear Park tracks with some friends is also quite fun.

What do you love about bikes?: I love the combination of physical strength and technical skill.

Name: Aaron Draxler
Role: Sales Consultant & Mechanic
Experience: I began my career in the cycling industry straight out of high school sweeping floors at my local bike shop. From there I developed a love for bike mechanics that has seen me spend the next 15 years honing my skills learning from the best in the business. Since those humble beginnings I have worked for some of the best stores in Adelaide (and owned a couple to). This led me to a position as the team mechanic for the South Australian Sports Institutes road and track team and finally a role as a team mechanic for Cycling Australians national and Olympic road and track teams. Hrowing up on a small property outside of a small country town didn't really give me many opportunities to develop an interest in cycling. However, once my family moved to the city at the start of my high school years I begun to develop a passion for the bike. In whatever for that passion took the one goal that was always my driving force was speed and pushing myself to the limits. This begun with a road bike and once the bug had taken hold meant that I spent most of my weekends at a local crit or track race. This continued for many years and eventually led me to expand my horizons and give Downhill racing a go. After racing for a couple of seasons, life got in the way and my racing days dried up. Now after a long hiatus away from the bike I’m back on the road and track bikes and super keen to get k’s back in the legs.
Expertise: Road and Track. Fine tuning race machines to get that extra hundredth of a second to achieve that World Record (or your next PB).
What do you love about bikes?: The freedom and mate-ship that bikes give is rivalled by nothing else. The ability to challenge ones self with a climb to be instantly rewarded by a long flowing decent and finish it off with a coffee with friends at the local brew house. That's what life is all about.
Current Bikes: Custom Planet X track bike and a Bower roadie.
Favourite Ride: Favorite Roadie ride is the Cherry Gardens loop. Favorite Mtb ride has to be Fox Long.

I am also a dedicated bike commuter. Rain, hail or shine I try and ride every day.
Expertise: Touring, commuting, custom builds, fixed-gear/track and metal fabrication.
What do you love about bikes?: Freedom! When you ride a bike that runs well you feel like you are floating on the earth and I love that the most.
